Scholarship Program
The Wichita Academy of Pharmacists Scholarship Program

The Wichita Academy of Pharmacists proudly helps support local pharmacy students with our scholarship program.  Qualified applicants must have a home or permanent address in Kansas, within 100 miles of the city of Wichita. 

Congratulations to Alexander J. Stearns who is the 2009 recipient of a $1000 scholarship from the Academy.

Biography:  Alexander J. Stearns, from Wichita, KS, will graduate from the University of Kansas with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2010. He is a member of Rho Chi Honorary Society (past KU Chapter Vice President), APhA-Academy of Student Pharmacy, and ASHP-Student Society of Health Systems Pharmacy. At the 2008 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in Orlando, Alex co-presented a poster detailing “The Medication Brown Bag for Lawrence Memorial Hospital Volunteers,” a nationally recognized volunteer project implemented by KU’s Student Society of Health-Systems Pharmacy chapter.  Through Rho Chi, he coordinated a fundraising effort for Operation Breakthrough, an after school program for inner city children in Kansas City, MO. 

Alex has completed internships at Wal-Mart pharmacy in 2007, Via Christi Regional Medical Center in 2008, and continues to work at K-Mart pharmacy in Wichita during his clinical rotations.
